Still here
I never thought I’d live through crazier times then back in 2001.
The entire country under a state of emergency, the FAA shutting down all non-military air travel…how could things have gone to shit so fast. Overall, nothing much has changed for me. Pretty much all of my friends have been sent home from work until further notice. The few that DO still have jobs that are opening their doors have called in sick. Mark drove me to the food store, I really wish I had the money to get my care out of impound….but something tells me it wouldn’t be the police’s top priority even if I did.
It was almost pointless to go to the store. Anything of value has been bought, manager said he was told by corporate not to expect any additional delivers until further notice. No sign of trouble here, but everyone is tense. I was able to get some batteries and some random food items. The deli, bakery and pharmacy were all closed and they only had 2 check out people.
As I said, a lot of people are tense. My neighbors are packing up and heading to their vacation home. I don’t understand their thinking. Why would you want to isolate yourself in some deserted resort area? I asked Mark if he wanted to stay for dinner, but he said he wanted to get back to his parent’s place. They’re boarding up the windows. Paranoid much? Maybe not, his parents have money, if there was looting here they’d be a tempting target…
I’m sure it won’t come to that here. It can’t.
As cynical as I feel sometimes, this is a small town. These are good people.
